| Jim and Jean Dudek were born and raised in Akron, Ohio and spent 12 years in Catholic Schools. It was during this time in the 1940s and 1950s that they learned about Fatima; the Story and the Message. Much later, in 1996, while traveling in the South of Portugal, they decided to visit Fatima as a casual side trip. Quite by accident, they found their way to the Solar da Marta Hotel. This was the beginning of a wonderful sequence of events that has led to the formation of “Pilgrims For Peace”. Armando Mendes, the Proprietor of the hotel, was born and raised in Fatima and presented the Fatima he knew and loved to Jim and Jean. Because of the sense of place that they experienced, they returned to Fatima the next year and met Fr. John DeMarchi, who because of his personal friendship with Sister Lucia, had intimate knowledge of the story of Fatima. Jim and Jean were led to the many places and introduced to many other people, each of whom filled in more of the story in a unique way. What they found on these four trips was so joyful that they felt that it had to be shared with others. |
